Afghan Women’s Football: A Good Future for Afghan Women’s Football

Nadia Nadim on women’s football in Afghanistan one year on from Taliban takeover

She has returned to Kabul from the UK and now works behind the scenes.

“I would like to see a positive future for women’s football in Afghanistan. It’s important that we build a society in which everyone can be accepted and a female football player can do the same,” Nadim told BBC Persian.

The first games

Despite the women’s team’s lack of success during their first season, Nadim said she believed they would be able to compete in Afghanistan.

“I believe the women’s team will be able to compete by the end of our season. We have all the pieces of the game, the equipment, training, and they are all good quality young players.

“We are going to work hard to make it to the first round. We are going to be very good and we have the support of the government and the people of Afghanistan.”

Nadia also believes the Afghan Women’s League will be important as an indicator of where Afghan women’s football is going to be in the future.

“I believe there will be more female players in the first round of the league. And what we are trying to achieve here is to have a strong and strong foundation, a good and good future for Afghan women in football.

“There are always going to be problems when a new country and a new country’s economy is growing and people are becoming more richer, but now that things have started to improve, there is definitely a good future for women’s football.”
