Dec. 5, 2012:
Megan Hilty said she and her husband got a call at about 1:30 a.m. Monday from a family living in Florida. Her sister had been killed in a plane crash in East Falmouth. The caller told her their only child was missing.
Hilty said her sister had gone on a three-month trip with her mother to attend a concert in New York City, so she spent a little over a day with the family before they left for Connecticut.
Monday night, the caller’s husband told her their only child was found at a bar in East Falmouth.
“That was pretty devastating to me,” Hilty said of the first call, which came in about 10:30 p.m. from a New York woman who said her son’s body was found in a bar in East Falmouth. “I was devastated.”
The second call came from the first family in Massachusetts.
“We found out through this second call that they were on a three-week cruise to Europe, and they were gone,” said Hilty, the lead detective in the case.
The third call came in at 1:30 a.m. It was from a Florida woman who said her husband’s body was missing in an accident.
“A body was found on the side of the road where my dad went missing in a car accident,” Hilty said.
Police said it appeared the body was that of the man’s son, who was 20-years-old.
The East Falmouth case is a part of the broader Cape Cod investigation, which is being conducted by Suffolk County police, Hilty said.
The mother and son were on a three-month trip in New York City, when their plane crashed off the coast of Cape Cod. The plane went down near the town of Bourne, but
